Suzanne Warden

About:
I have been a fine artist most of my life. About 10 years ago I started dabbling in felted items. I enjoy making “Creatures” some realistic and others fantasy.

Where do you live?
Ashland Oregon

What do you like to do when you are needle felting?
I’m not in need of entertainment while I’m working, I find I meditative to work in silence

What do you like to create the most when felting?
I like to challenge myself with pushing the boundaries of size. I don’t like repeating the same animals, and since there are so many on our beautiful planet I don’t have to worry about running out of creatures to make.

Do you take on commissions?
No, I like the freedom of allowing myself to pick on a whim what I’m going to make. Sometimes the decision is based on the wool I have in my stock, and sometimes I see a animal online that inspires m

All time favorite food?
Food is just something I need to be able to needle felting.

Something interesting about yourself:
My main hobby for years was remodeling houses, I have done 15 of my own , and assisted and advise many people on how to do fix ups on their own homes. Earlier this year after the fires in LA, I started a website/ blog to give free advice to people who have lost their homes in a disaster. It is called https://one-biteatatime.com/

Karin OSwald from Cariad.se

About:
In 2003 I learned needle felting and fell in love immediately. Back then, it was a very unusual craft in Sweden so I had nobody to learn from. I didn´t even know that there were high quality needles until fifteen years later! When I finally got good tools, and found an international online community, my creativity just exploded.
In 2019 I started a business called Cariad. I never planned to live on it, because I don´t want to feel any pressure when creating. I earn a little from giving classes and selling my things in a local craft shop or on craft fairs, but my main income is from the healtcare section. I am a specialised nurse assistant, I worked for ten years in the Childrens Hospital but now change focus and study to be a medical foot therapeut. Not quite as advanced as a podiatrist but in that area.
When I create, all inspiration comes from my own imagination. I have tried to make realistic animals but I just do not have that connection between my eyes and my hand. Also, I need complete freedom when I create. Nobody can tell me what a troll or dragon is supposed to look like, but everybody can tell me that my horse does not look at all like a horse. I did try once but I turned into a fantasy moose instead. As that, it is great. As a horse, not so much

Where do you live?
Uppsala, Sweden

What do you like to do when you are needle felting?
I would turn that around, and say that I often needle felt while doing other things! Traveling, waiting for something (the bus the dentist, for the water to boil, customer service via phone... anything!), having Swedish fika with friends, watching TV, chatting, when I have online lectures, working in the little craft shop where I sell my things, on job breaks... always.

What do you like to create the most when felting?
Eyes! I mostly make fantasy creatures such as trolls, gnomes and dragons, and my favourite part is making the eyes and through those eyes get to know their personality. When I make the eyes, that is where I leave my own mark on them.

Do you take on commissions?
If they are fun, or give me enough freedom, I might do it. Like, if someone wants to buy a dragon and aren´t in a hurry, I can absolutely make one. Last year someone wanted to give her adult children and their partners small gnomes that resembled them when it came to hair and eye colour. That was fun. Otherwise I find that commissions stress me a little. I feel a bit guilty if I work on other things that I would rather do, if I know that someone is waiting for a piece

All time favorite food?
Food is just something I need to be able to needle felting.

Something interesting about yourself:
I lived in Aberystwyth for a year and learned Welsh. The name of my business, Cariad, is the Welsh word for Love.
I have written a storybook about the history of Uppsala, with my felted beings telling us how they have had an impact on everything that has happened. My photographer Heléne and I had so much fun creating it! It´s bilingual, Swedish and English.

Dawn Seevers from Chicken Run Creations

About:
I had seen needle felting done a number of years ago at a craft fair but at that time couldn't find out much about how to go about getting supplies and such. Right before covid I came across a post of a needle felted item someone one posted in a crafting group and when I asked where she got the supplies she gave me an Amazon link for an inexpensive kit. The rest is history. I fell in love at the first stab. I just love how you can take wool and turn it into something amazing. I have been felting ever since and started teaching a few years ago both in person and online. It's definitely a passion for me to see what new and fun things I can create and share my love with others.

Alexandra Tikhomirova from We Felt Happy

About:
I always thought that needle felted toys looked amazing, but always thought it was too difficult to try. However, one year I found myself far away from home, in another city, and in a boring job. So I started to explore different creative avenues. During one particularly boring day at work, my boss mentioned having too much fur shed by her dog, and if perhaps I knew of a way to make something from it, for example Russian felted boots -valenki. I said that I don't know how to make anything, but I know that people make all sorts of stuff. From there on, I started exploring kits to learn felting. Still, I never thought I could design anything myself. But eventually making ready ideas from kits became boring... So I tried...

Stacey Heller from Lovely Day Artisan Loft

https://www.etsy.com/shop/LovelyDayArtisanLoft
lovelydayartisanloft@gmail.com

About:
During the COVID-19 pandemic, a simple online image sparked a new creative passion. Already a seasoned crafter with years of experience in various arts, including recent forays into felt play food and activity books for children, I was captivated by the intricate textures of needle felted pieces. Curiosity drove me to explore this unique medium, and I quickly fell in love with the tactile process of sculpting wool with a barbed needle. Needle felting has since become my primary artistic focus, allowing me to create detailed and whimsical figures. Always eager to expand my creative horizons, I'm currently venturing into the delicate art of embroidery and experimenting with the intricate coils of paper quilling, adding new dimensions to my artistic journey.

Where do you live?
Johns Creek, GA

What do you like to do when you aren't needle felting?
Beyond my crafting, I cherish time spent with loved ones, creating lasting memories through travel and shared experiences. I'm an avid reader, and while transitioning to audiobooks took some adjustment, I appreciate the time it frees up. When it comes to TV, true crime documentaries are my go-to. My collections reflect my passions: shot glasses capture the essence of my travels, while enamel pins celebrate the things I hold dear, from beloved books and movies to personal values.

What do you like to create the most when felting?
My needle felting truly shines when I'm crafting holiday-themed pieces – the sheer variety of festive subjects fuels endless creativity! While I adore bringing all sorts of creatures to life, bears hold a special place as my go-to, perhaps because they seem the most forgiving. I lean heavily towards whimsical characters, finding immense joy in their playful forms, rather than attempting the challenge of hyper-realistic animals. People are another favorite subject, offering a wonderful canvas for imaginative expression and allowing me to truly let my creative spirit roam free.

Do you take on commissions?
Due to family and work commitments, I'm currently not accepting commissions. My creative energy is focused on bringing my own burgeoning ideas to life, and I find it challenging to commit to deadlines at this time.

Ann Chrysler - Dimensional Needle Felting

Email: dchrysler1@comcast.net

About:

I discovered Dimensional Needle Felting in a gift shop and became hooked after a short class. My first major interest was felting teddy bears.
I had sewn many bears and was familiar with their body parts and shapes. One day, a teddy bear head took on it's own form and the entire felting became a "cave man" which sparked my interest in creating human characters and real people from photos. With the help of of the artist who created this art form, I bought her book. Brigitte Hansen lives in Denmark and is the original artist of dimensional felting. Then I discovered Kay Petal, who studied needle felting under Brigitte in Denmark and lives in the U.S. She taught me how how to felt humans from photos from her fb page, that I was lucky enough to find and join. Most of what I have learned, I give credit to those two fantastic artists.

I have been felting for 16 years and have won awards in on-line contests, thanks to the many techniques of Brigette and Kay. They both got me on track after a year or so of struggling, not being aware of any techniques. As with most artists, I have learned some of my own techniques over the years.
There is no end to what can be sculpted with a felting needle and wool.

I have many craft classes over the years and have done many craft and art shows. I love demonstrating needle felting as people take a huge interest in how it happens with a pile of wool and barbed needles when seeing a display of so many felted pieces.

I’m Sally, a needle felting artist, teacher, and community builder originally from Manchester and now rooted in the inspiring landscapes of the Lake District. I am a member of the International Felt-makers Association and began sharing my skills through free workshops, newsletters and workbook downloads - I love it!

As my creative journey unfolded, I combined my coaching and teaching skills with fibre art, giving birth to Sally Bonnie Fibre n Art!

About
I wanted to do something special with my dogs fur after she passed away suddenly in November 2024 and came across a needle felting Facebook page that featured a dog that incorporated real fur. I bought myself a kit online and gave it a go and was immediately hooked! I then began creating characters from pictures off the internet and also did a few special requests before being asked to do someone's dog. Since then my pet keepsakes have really taken off and I am loving being able to bring that little bit of comfort back to grieving owners by allowing them to touch and hold something familiar instead of just looking at pictures.

About
I started needle felting around eight years ago. I was intrigued with some little creatures I saw in a shop window when I was in Wellington, NZ and was told they were needle felted!
Coming home to New Plymouth, I could not find anyone teaching this and as was desperate to learn, I taught myself. My first works were mostly fantasy figures which I gave away to friends and family.
I eventually found some groups on Facebook and learnt a great deal with the help of other felters mostly overseas.
I joined Taranaki Creative Fibre and found a few who were interested and who had also done a little needle felting.
I was asked to take some workshops for beginners which I did, to start with rather reluctantly, as didn't feel I was good enough.
However, my pupils really enjoyed my help and word got out, I was soon in demand as a tutor locally.
By this time I had started my own Facebook page and through this was taking commissions, many for pet memorial portraits.
I enjoy making NZ native birds, have made several wall hangings as well as my recent life size "NZ native Kea , please don't feed" which I am proud to say won the most votes in the People's choice Award at Taranaki Creative Fibres Fibreworks Exhibition.
I was very fortunate to attend an international artist, Rich O Hanna's workshop on mask making in New Plymouth in January where I learnt a great deal of new techniques as well as finding I have so much more still to learn...
However, my passion for Needle Felting continues and I enjoy sharing my love with other felters.

Elise Campbell from Full of Wool Fibre Art

About:
I was never an “artsy” person or kid. It wasn’t until I became pregnant with my daughter that I felt the urge to create. I suppose it was nesting, but I started to crochet, making little sleep sacks and things for my baby. After a couple years of crocheting my older sister, who is an incredible knitter, introduced me to needle felting. It wasn’t love at first stab - I made a very floppy and measly octopus wearing a hat! But she persisted and bought me a felting kit, and with the proper tools and instruction I fell entirely into it and haven’t looked back since!

Where do you live?
Halifax

What do you like to do when you are needle felting?
I listen to podcasts, audiobooks, and music. If I’m figuring something technical out I might turn everything off, or just have instrumental music, but typically I’ve got a podcast or book on the go.

What do you like to create the most when felting?
I am really into mushrooms. I love their diversity of colour, shape, and texture. Fungi are an endless source of inspiration for me and a great challenge. I am able to utilize all forms of felting and I really enjoy that aspect… plus, they don’t have faces!

Do you take on commissions?
Sometimes. Commissions aren’t my favourite, so I have to really vibe with the project. My favourite commission was to make a large-scale, anatomical human heart <3 It was an incredible and beautiful piece that is part of a travelling exhibition at various museums.

All time favorite food?
Give me Greek! Anything with all that fresh lemon, oregano, olive oil, and garlic - I love it!

Something interesting about yourself:
After I graduated high school I travelled a lot, and while in Uganda there was a hippopotamus shot at the river in the town I was staying in. The whole community went to the river to see it and I was encouraged to buy some meat (I didn’t eat red meat at the time, but felt that it was a supportive thing to do.) So I handed over my money and received a large chunk of bloody meat *in my hand* in return! I ended up making hippo stew and enjoying it :D

The Felt Pen - Minnie Hill

About:
An article about needle felting popped up on my Fb page in 2020, that dreadful year! A lady in Ireland was making beautiful felted robins and I just thought what an amazing and beautiful art form.
A couple of years later I left full time work to care for my Mother. It was then that I took up needle felting by watching lots of YouTube tutorials and teaching myself.
Two years on I have a business called the Felt Pen, a supportive following on Face Book, an Etsy shop and I just love it! I specialise in Westies and they sell out super quickly so I now have a waiting list for them into 2026.
My plans for the future include kits and tutorials, continuing to feature the Westies but also Australian animals too

Cara de fieltr0 - Karen Landa

About:
From restoring a 19th-century diplomatic suit in 2007 to sculpting lifelike creatures today, my journey with needle felting has been nothing short of magical. As an art and cultural heritage conservator, I first used this technique for restoration—never imagining the world it would open up for me. A decade later, I stumbled upon needle felting as a sculptural art form, and it was love at first sight. Since then, I’ve been sculpting, experimenting, and sharing the wonders of this art.

Where do you live?
 Mexico City

What do you like to do when you are needle felting?
Most of the times I felt just hearing the needle and wool sound and my thoughts, other times I listen books or podcasts, and If I need inspiration, I listen music.

What do you like to create the most when felting?
I love to recreate realism, of any texture possible.

Do you take on commissions?
I prioritize commissions that challenge me.

All time favorite food?
Italian and Japanese food.

Something interesting about yourself:
As a child, I would spend all my time sculpting animals out of clay. Returning to creating animals is my way of reconnecting with my inner child and listening to myself.
